Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

What is Carbon Dioxide?

Carbon dioxide is used by plants in the photosynthesis process. Plants absorb carbon dioxide and sunlight and produce sugars with oxygen as a by-product.

Carbon dioxide is introduced to the aquarium via two ways:

  1. Respiration - Living organisms within the aquarium breathe up oxygen and produce carbon dioxide.
  2. CO2 Systems - Systems that artificially introduces carbon dioxide into the aquarium, commonly used in planted aquariums.
